ZeniMax Online Studios has announced that more than 18 million players have explored the world of The Elder Scrolls Online, the MMORPG based on the universe created by Bethesda Game Studios. In 2020 more than three million joined of users; keep in mind that the game is added to Xbox Game Pass for console in October and that in December it was included in the Play for Free with Gold promotion.
The information comes from the roundtable that Microsoft held on Thursday on the occasion of the acquisition of ZeniMax Media. In that context, Matt Firor, director de ZeniMax Online Studios, admits that the launch of The Elder Scrolls Online it was difficult, but that Robert Altman supported them to improve it. Altman, founder of ZeniMax, passed away in February.
“It is no secret that Elder Scrolls Online stumbled at first on launch. Firor assures that his game is “one of the most successful virtual fantasy world games”, and puts figures on that triumph. “Over 18 million users connecting from all over the world, three million new residents of Tamriel in 2021 alone.” Aaron Greenberg, general manager of gaming marketing at Xbox, adds that it is “the world’s leading multiplatform online role-playing game”.
Gates of Oblivion arrive in summer
The Elder Scrolls Online is available in PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One y Google Stadia. The MMORPG will be updated in the future to take advantage of the technical features of the Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5. In summer 2021 the next expansion will be launched: The Elder Scrolls Online: Gates of Oblivion, which will be preceded by more content.
