SEGA has announced that Sonic Team is working on a new game in the series “as a flagship”. He did it during the broadcast of the Sonic Central event today, where several news related to the 30th anniversary of the blue hedgehog and the future of the saga have been presented. Although not many details of this new project have been shown, I do know that there has been a launch window: 2022.
In this way, we know that next year we will have a new main game within the Sonic franchise, a title that Sonic Team, responsible for works such as Sonic Generations or Sonic Forces, is developing for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC y Nintendo Switch. We have barely seen anything about this new project, other than a brief teaser in which the character is shown running through a forest leaving a beam of blue light behind him that gives way to a mysterious logo.
Other announcements of Sonic Central
In addition to the arrival of a new Sonic Team game next year, during today’s Sonic Central, other new titles have also been announced whose launch seems to be closer. At least it is so in Sonic Colors: Ultimate, a remastering of the 2010 platformer that coming September 7 to PS4, Xbox One and on Nintendo Switch with a suggested retail price of 39.99. You can see his first trailer below:
An announcement has also been made new compilation of classic games of the saga: it is about Sonic Origins, a collection that include Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), Sonic CD (1993) and Sonic 3 & Knuckles (1994). No further details of this project have been given at the moment, although it is anticipated that there will be more information later this year.
