LukeRoss, creator of the mod R.E.A.L. VR in order to Grand Theft Auto 5, has worked for make Red Dead Redemption 2 compatible with virtual reality. On his Patreon page he communicates that the mod of GTA 5 has been very well received, with over 100,000 downloads, encouraging him to focus on a more ambitious project. Ross financial supporters can download this mod in Early Access for a “simple” install, even though from a developer point of view the job has been much more complex. The mod allows you to play your entire story with a virtual reality device, in first or third person.
The code of this mod has been created from scratch, that of GTA 5 it couldn’t be used for this other Rockstar game. “The game is much more advanced than GTA 5 from a technical point of view, “says Ross, for the use of Vulkan and DX12. So, it was necessary to design everything specifically for RDR 2, a six-month job. However, although during the gameplay it does not seem to suffer any problem, it is noted that at specific moments the usual inconveniences of this type of mods may arise: sometimes you will not be able to control the camera -during sequences or some type of event- and they will be appreciable errors of clipping.
Your intention is to continue adapting other future games to VRincluding Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Zero Dawn Y Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but the priority at the moment is Red Dead Redemption 2, so we won’t see them anytime soon.
