Blizzard has released a new update to Overwatch, its popular shooter, on all platforms. Among the usual bug fixes and tweaks the patch notes include a number of Graphics options for Xbox One version when played on Xbox Series X | S that allow you to take advantage of the new generation console prioritizing image rate or resolution. The options are as follows:
- Resolution: a mode that favors resolution at the cost of reducing image quality somewhat. In Series X it works at 4K and 60 fps, in Series S at 1440p at 60 fps.
- Balanced: a mode that improves image quality by reducing resolution. In Series X it works at 1440p and 60 fps, in Series S at 1080p and 60 fps.
- Framerate: a mode that favors high frame rates at 120 fps with the necessary reduction in resolution and image quality. In Series X it works at 1440p / 120 fps, in Series S at 1080p / 120 fps. To use the option you need a 120 Hz or VRR compatible television.
Due to the way backward compatibility works on PlayStation 5, the option is not available on the PS4 version.; Blizzard would need to release a native PS5 version to achieve such a performance; so Psyonix explained with Rockete League, and it also happens with Call of Duty: Warzone -Playable on PS5 in PS4 mode with boost but without exploiting its full potential.
