Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu has revealed some first details of Monarch, a new “school RPG” with some developers who previously worked on the series Megami Tensei Y Shin Megami Tensei by Atlus. The creative studio is Lancarse and is edited by FuRyu; will launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on October 14, at least in Japan “It is still too early to know the plans in the West.” On June 11 at 5:00 a.m. on the Spanish peninsula, his presentation will be followed with a first trailer of four minutes and six more with his music, composed by Tsukasa Masuko.
Monarch is directed and produced by Fuyuki Hayashi and Mitsuhiro Hoshino, with story by Fuyuki Hayashi and Ryutaro Ito, supervision by Kazunari Suzuki, Aya Nishitani, and character design by so-bin. The team regrets that today there are no games like Shin Megami Tensei IF -a parallel story to Shin Megami Tensei which debuted in 1994- and in a way the prototype of Monarch was based on this idea of a school adventure.
The story follows the True Student Council, which was established to solve anomalous situations at the institute. The protagonist, who becomes the deputy director of the council, chooses a partner from four characters to challenge the unreasonable. The argument offers different endings and routes for each of the partners. To improve replayability, there will be the option to skip the shared paths between characters and thus view the entire plot more comfortably.
Regarding its combat system, the battles use commands with a free-moving turn system. We can increase the level of madness to get more powerful skills, but if it increases too much the character will go crazy and attack enemies and comrades alike, making their combat impossible.
An EGO system is also mentioned that represents the levels of pride, anger, envy, lust, gluttony, and laziness. These values change according to the choices made and affect the demons that we can use as subordinates, customizable demons in appearance and voice.
