The lead designer of Hogwarts Legacy, Troy Leavitt, has left his post at Avalanche Software, the development studio in charge of the game open world role based on the universe of Harry Potter. Leavitt has made the decision less than two weeks after his YouTube channel went viral, where he defended extreme right positions, criticized feminism and published videos supporting the Gamergate.
“I have made the decision to leave Avalanche Software. I have nothing but good words for the game, the team Development and Warner Bros. Games, “Leavitt says on his Twitter account, indicating that it was he who left the study and not Avalanche Software who fired you. In statements to Kotaku, Warner Bros. has said that “Senior producer Troy Leavitt has made the decision to leave Avalanche Software”.
1. I have made the decision to part ways with Avalanche Software. I have nothing but good things to say about the game, the dev team, and WB Games.
2. I will be releasing a YouTube Video about this soon on my channel.— Troy Leavitt (@Troylus_true) March 5, 2021
In the same tweet he warns that post a video “soon” explaining the situation on his YouTube channel. Less than an hour after posting the original message, the designer returned to the social network to clarify that he “felt absolutely safe” in his workplace. “However, I wanted to resign for the reasons I will explain in my next video. I am in excellent spirits and very satisfied with my relationship with Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software”.
To clarify: I felt absolutely secure in my position. However, I still wanted to resign for reasons that I will explain in that forthcoming video . Im in excellent spirits and very pleased with my relationship with WB and Avalanche. 😄👍— Troy Leavitt (@Troylus_true) March 5, 2021
Liam Robertson, from the YouTube channel DoYouKnowGaming, brought out the type of videos Leavitt publishes on February 20. In Kotaku published a report stating that the developer said in 2017 that the Gamergate, a movement that encourage harassment of women and other minorities of the video game industry, it was “painful at times, but overall it has proven to be a good thing”.
I know this is just shocking but the lead designer of Hogwarts Legacy is Troy Leavitt, a far right YouTuber who used to make anti-fem and pro GG vids: https://t.co/kDNm9ri9zH pic.twitter.com/w3dDy0YXe4— Liam Robertson (@Doctor_Cupcakes) February 20, 2021
In his videos he defends, among others, personalities such as John Lasseter, the Pixar co-founder who left the company over allegations of sexual harassment; already Nolan Bushnell, the Atari co-founder accused of creating toxic workspaces for women at his company. At the same time, he criticizes the cultural critic Anita Sarkeesian and defends “cultural appropriation”.
The game will arrive in 2022 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox
Warner Bros. has not disclosed who will fill Leavitt’s position. Hogwarts Legacy I know delayed until 2022, when to get to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One. We recently learned that the character editor allow creating transgender avatars. JK Rowling, the author of the saga Harry Potter, has made transphobic statements successively. The novelist receives royalties for each product of her saga sold, although she is not involved in the development of this game, according to Warner Bros.
