At the end of last month, a series of rumors came to light that suggested that NetherRealm Studios, responsible for the franchise Mortal Kombat, They could be working on a new Marvel fighting game. The information, coming from insiders, ensured that both companies would be collaborating in the development of a title with characters such as Captain Amrica, Iron Man, Starlord or Hulk in the style of what we see in the saga Injustice.
Now Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat e Injustice and creative director at NetherRealm Studios, wanted to feed the flame of these rumors posting a tweet which many fans have understood as a declaration of intent. Specifically Boon has cited the logo of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, one of the new movies Marvel announced yesterday, adding what some consider a possible clue: “Wow, James Gunn has gotten to work on both DC and Marvel movies. It’s awesome.”, can be read in your tweet.
With that message, which you can see inserted on these lines, Boon will be making a comparison between director James Gunn, which has adapted both DC comics, with The Suicide Squad, like Marvel, like Avengers: Endgame, and NetherRealm Studios work, which would also have collaborated with both companies to confirm the rumors that have come to light in recent weeks.
Geoff Keighley makes eyes at the tweet by Ed Boon
In addition to the tweet Ed Boon’s, what fuels the gossip is the responses he’s generated. Geoff Keighley, responsible for The Game Awards and Sumer Game Fest, has responded to the message from the developer with a emoji googly-eyed, implying that he either knows something, or is understanding the same as everyone: that NetherRealm Studios is working on a Marvel fighting game. In June the Summer Game Fest 2021 will be celebrated, so maybe we will see something of this new project in one of its broadcasts.

It should be remembered that Ed Boon has made it clear on occasion that would be happy to develop a Marvel game and that, in fact, he contacted the company to carry out one: “We would like to make a Marvel fighting game or a Marvel vs. DC, I think it would be the most interesting, “he said in 2019. Last year also confirmed that they had “other things” in the oven beyond its two main sagas, although it has not yet been announced what it was about.
